You will want tackle blood stains while they’re still wet, which makes them easier to get out. But they’re definitely a challenge.

Safest method:

1. Turn the fabric so the stain is face-down.
2. Flush the stain with cold water.
3. Rub soap into the stain. I found Dawn dish soap worked best.
4. Rub the stain against itself.
5. Rinse and repeat, if necessary.

Use a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, which is the strength it is typically sold at, can be poured directly onto the stain or applied with a cotton ball. Be aware that it will likely bleach colored fabric. Keep the fabric in a dark place for 5-10 minutes, since light breaks down hydrogen peroxide, then blot with a sponge or cloth.

Use white vinegar: Soak the stained fabric in white vinegar for about thirty minutes, then rub the stain with your fingers as you rinse it in cool water. Repeat if the stain is noticeably improved but still present. Vinegar poured directly on the stain is one of the most effective methods to clean blood. Blot until the stain is removed and rinse with water to remove the vinegar smell. Blot the stain with the mixture until it’s lifted out of the fabric. Use a clean damp cloth or sponge then launder.
Use salt or ammonia:The BBC strongly recommends not using hot water to remove a blood stain because it could make the stain set in; instead soak the fabric in a quart of cold water with two tablespoons of table salt or ammonia.
baking soda paste (two parts baking soda to 1 part water) is also a good trick to help lift blood stains. Apply the poultice directly to the stain and leave it for up to 30 minutes. After you’ve removed the paste, carefully blot the area with a damp cloth or paper towel then wash as normal.
Dried blood stains can be treated by making a paste of 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide mixed with 1 tbsp. each liquid dish soap and table salt. Rub this into the stain and allow it to sit until dry before scraping the residue off.
Do not wash any blood stain clothing until the stain has been removed.
